November 2007

Dr. Gerald Radack of the United States received the 2007 International William J. Conroy Standards Professional Award at the ISO TC184/SC4 meeting in Irving, Texas, USA.  The Award recognizes individuals from the ISO 10303 (known as STEP, the STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) technical community who have shown exceptional leadership in the development or implementation of Product Data Exchange standards.

Dr. Radack, of Concurrent Technologies Corporation, has been a leader in the development of Product Data Standards for over 15 years.  Within ISO TC 184/SC4, he serves as Convenor of its Working Group 3 (WG3 – Product Modeling).  This is the largest working group within ISO TC184/SC4, responsible for developing and maintaining two standards:  ISO 10303 (STEP) and the ISO 15926 (Oil & Gas) Standard.

In addition to his leadership of WG3, Dr. Radack has also been personally involved in the development of several ISO 10303 standards supporting multiple industries, including  AP215 for Ship Arrangements, AP216 for Ship Moulded Forms, AP218 for Ship Structure, and AP227 for Plant Spatial Configuration.  He also was the author of Usage Guides for AP212 for Electro-technical Design and Installation and a Usage Guide for AP227 specifying how to use this standard for the transfer of piping, HVAC, or cableway product models.

Dr. Radack has been active in other development areas within SC4, including the development of PLIB (ISO 13584), and the Open Technical Dictionary (ISO 22745).  His expertise has assured the success and consistency of standards for product model and parts library exchange. He has also served as a very effective liaison from ISO TC184/SC4 to other international organizations.

PDES, Inc. is proud to sponsor the International William J. Conroy Standards Professional Award, which was established in 1997 by the US Product Data Association (US PRO) Board of Directors in honor of Bill Conroy.  Mr. Conroy provided notable leadership to the standards community throughout a professional career that included serving as Chairman of the IGES/PDES Organization, Director for the National Initiative for Product Data Exchange, and Chairman of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) for TC 184/SC4. The Award is presented annually.
